3 Tricks for Time Management in Internet Marketing

“Make use of time, let not advantage slip.”

William Shakespeare

When it comes to Social Media and Internet Marketing, time management is a key component for success. When compared to big brands with big marketing budgets, the small business can sometimes be at a disadvantage when it comes to managing their social media and Internet brand presence. Due to limited resources, small business owners are usually forced to try to maintain their business’s eMarketing strategy themselves. However, what is seen quite often is the small business owner lets the Internet marketing go by the wayside because they don’t have the time.

From one eMarketer to another (business owner or not), the following are some tricks to try to help you make the most of your time with your Internet and social media marketing maintenance (and the beautiful part is that they don’t have to cost you anything!):

Schedules

Have a schedule! Know when and how often you have the time to update your social media accounts and interact with your fans and followers each day and STICK TO IT! For some, that may be first thing in the morning when you check your email, or right before you leave the office. The important thing is that you find a schedule that works for you and you remain consistent. The more you stick to your schedule, the more likely maintaining your social media presence will become habit and actually become part of the way you do business.

Social Media Dashboards

Social media dashboards are websites that allow you to maintain multiple social media accounts at once. For example, if your business has a Facebook and a Twitter page, you would be able to post to both of those accounts at the same time, with either the same message or different messages. A social media dashboard will also give you the ability to schedule posts to your social media accounts so that you can be sure that your pages are updated, even while you’re otherwise occupied.

Caveat: Remember that social media marketing cannot just be the transmission of information; it must be a CONVERSATION! Remember to check your pages for comments from your fans and followers and interact with them too.

Some social media dashboards to look into would be Hootsuite and Tweetdeck.

Interns

Interns can be a valuable resource to begin to utilize. By hiring interns from local universities, you are tapping into a tech-savvy group of moldable people. They’re willing to work for experience in the eMarketing field because there aren’t very many opportunities out there. Also, you do have the ability to run your internship for credit, which means the students get college credit for completing the internship and you don’t have to add them to payroll. Caveat: There are restrictions on unpaid internships, so before you decide on this route, be sure you’re following state and federal guidelines for this type of hiring. And remember, paying your interns is not out of the question either—in fact, you may find that it motivates the students a little more if they receive a paycheck.

Time management is a tool that will really help your eMarketing strategy take off. If you find that you’re struggling with this, think about a schedule, social media dashboards, and/or interns.
