Black Friday Safety

With Black Friday lurking around the corner, it’s time to start prepping for the biggest shopping day of the year! Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving where stores have lots of sales going on. Though these sales may be great, it can cause a lot of commotion, traffic, and stress for shoppers. In the past, there have been incidents involving Black Friday Shopping. It’s important to be safe while still grabbing those deals! Here are some safety tips for your shopping extravaganza:

Be careful on the roads!

A lot of shoppers are out on Black Friday. There could be an increase in traffic and cars on the road. Practice safe driving while you are going to your destination. If you decide to go out in the early hours of the morning, make sure you are alert! Falling asleep behind the wheel is extremely dangerous. If you feel tired while driving, stop your car somewhere safe, and call someone you know to come pick you up.

  • Watch out for other drivers
  • Practice patience while on the road. Aggressive driving is dangerous driving.
  • Park your car in a well-lit area
  • When backing out of a parking space, be aware of any people or cars that might me in your path
  • If you feel tired behind the wheel, pull over.
  • Make sure your auto insurance is up to date, just in case an accident does occur.

Be mindful in the store

Though you may find yourself caught up in the rush of the sales, keep a level head when shopping. Sometimes people can get aggressive, and it’s best not to get into a fight. Black Friday is a day where thieves flourish. Be careful as your whiz around the mall.

  • Keep your money in a safe place. Put your wallet near your body. Keeping a wallet in your back pocket is in invitation for pick pocketers.
  • If you bring your kids with you, always keep an eye out for them.
  • Save your receipts in the event of credit card fraud
  • Don’t fight with others in the store. It’s not worth getting hurt for a sale.
  • If you plan on shopping in multiple stores, put your shopping bags out of sight in your car. If someone sees your purchases in the back seat, they may be tempted to break into your car.

Cyber Monday Safety

Black Friday deals have extended over the weekend and online. A spin-off of Black Friday is Cyber Monday, where online deals flourish. Be safe while scouring the web for the best deals. Cyber security is a huge threat for all online users, so be cautious!

  • Only give your credit card information to sites that you trust
  • If the deal looks too good to be true, then it probably is. Be aware of possible scams.
  • Avoid downloading “free” things if you don’t know what it is or the site is sketchy.
