Think Before You Spring Clean Your Body!
I hope I don’t jinx us, but with talks of fifty degree weather coming up soon, spring may actually be here! Is your first thought “It’s time for spring cleaning”? Yes, it’s important to open the windows, shake out the rugs, and get out your bleach, but what about spring cleaning for your body? Juice cleanses are all the rage these days and it may seem like a great way to start a fresh, new diet. Before you get started, read these 7 truths about juice cleanses.
- They can be dangerous. If you have a condition like diabetes, the sugar involved in the juice can cause some serious problems. As is the case with many other diets, talk to your doctor first.
- Whole fruits may be better. Juicing has not proven to be better than just eating fruit and vegetables. In fact, you may be missing out on some of the nutrients in those fruit and vegetables in the juicing process. Drinking instead of eating your meals may also prove less satisfying and fulfilling.
- Nutrients may be left out. Yes, the idea may be to cut out some fat, but are you getting any fat? What about protein? Make sure you are getting the nutrients your body needs while lacking some major food groups.
- You probably won’t keep the weight off. Because your body is essentially starving, when you do start eating again you are very likely to gain the weight back. Also, if you do a juice cleanse long enough, it may permanently lower your metabolism. No one wants that!
- There’s not much to detox. We do juice cleanses in hopes to detox our body, but the fact is that our body does that naturally.
- It can cost you more than you think. Chances are you will be buying a juicer, which could cost you as much as $300. If you plan on getting your daily juices from a company, that could cost as much as $70 a day.
- It won’t cure your sickness. Many people have heard that it can cure the sniffles and there’s even been talk of it helping with cancer. There’s very little research to support this and while it does increase your vitamin intake, the lack of nutrients you may be getting could cancel that out.
Lastly, keep in mind that if your friend is telling you how great it is, she may just be feeling more energized and better about her body because she thinks she just cleansed her body. With any diet, it’s important to consult your doctor and do your research. Thinking about the importance of a longer, healthier life? It’s a great time to also think about Connecticut Life Insurance.
