Featured Recipe of the Week: Baked French Toast

This recipe is an Encharter favorite from our very own Denise S. Enjoy this on Christmas morning, or on any weekend morning, for a great start to the day!
Denise’s Baked French Toast

Serving Size: 1 bar; approx. 48 bars

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 45-50 minutes

Oven Temp: 350 degrees

Ingredients:

– Loaf (10oz) French bread, cut into 1-inch cubes (10 cups)

– 8 eggs

– 3 cups milk

– 4 teaspoons sugar

– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

– 3/4 teaspoon salt; optional

For the topping:

– 2 tbs butter or margarine, cubed

– 3 tbs sugar

– 2 tsp ground cinnamon

– Maple syrup, optional

Directions:

– Place bread cubes in greased 13x9x2in baking dish. In mixing bowl, beat eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla and salt if desired. Pour over bread.

– Cover and refrigerate for 8hrs or overnight.

– Remove from refrigerator 30min before baking. Dot with butter. Combine sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over the top.

– Cover and bake at 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean.

– Let stand for 5 minutes. Serve with syrup if desired.
