Head Scratching Social Media Stats

social media tips for businessI recently came across a great infographic with “10 Surprising Social Media Stats” from Likeable Daily that may be helpful when figuring out your social media plan for next year. Continuously researching and learning about social networks is essential as you begin to come up with your marketing plan and budget. Hopefully, learning these will make it less likely you will be heading in the wrong direction with that plan. Things are always changing on the social media landscape, something that was true and worked for your plan last year may not be as successful this year.

Here are a couple of the stats to keep in mind moving forward:

  • The average lifespan of content on Pinterest is 1 week, Facebook is 80 minutes and Twitter is 5-25 minutes.
  • More than 250 billion photos are uploaded to Facebook every day. Make sure your images stand out!
  • 4.2 billion people use their mobile device to access social media sites. How does your brand look on mobile?
  • Half of all technology companies have gotten a customer from Twitter. Are you doing enough with your tweets?
  • Every minute, two new members join LinkedIn. Did you know that you can create a business page on LinkedIn to interact with them?

Do any of these stats make you rethink your social media strategy? I am constantly preaching that it is important to use the venues that suit your industry best, but sometimes you can be creative. For example, we don’t use Instagram and Vine because there isn’t a great visual for insurance, but when it comes to Pinterest we pin the images from our blogs to bring people to our site. Get creative! After all, isn’t that was marketing is all about? Check us out on Twitter and Pinterest!
