Holiday Travel Don’ts
It may be too early to start thinking about the winter holidays, but now’s the time to start planning if you’re going to be traveling outside of Connecticut! If you typically fly during the holidays, here are some great don’ts to keep you in your holiday budget. The closer you get to the end of the year, the more the prices continue to raise so check out these tips on how to save on holiday travel ASAP.
- Are you waiting for a last-minute deal? Don’t. This is not the time of year for impulse shopping; prices keep rising so book your tickets as soon as you know your dates and destinations.
- Relying on third-party comparison sites to shop airline prices? Don’t. Sometimes this is a convenient place to start your search but often times you’ll be able to get a better deal shopping around on your own because not all airlines are displayed on such sites.
- Avoiding flying on the actual holiday? Don’t. You probably don’t want to fly on Thanksgiving Day, however
not many other people would either. For this reason, you might be able to save by flying on holidays. If you let your family know early enough in advance, I’m sure they’ll plan festivities around your arrival. - Packing lots of gifts in your luggage? Don’t. If you’re planning on traveling with all of your gifts, this may result in excessive baggage fees. Look in to shipping gifts directly. This may save you money, as well as having to lug them around the airport.
- Flying only across a few states? Don’t. Consider ground travel. Alternatives like trains and buses may pay off cheaper, as well as driving.
- If you’re thinking about driving, use a fuel cost calculator to make sure you will be saving money before choosing your route of transportation. But before you hit the road, make sure to also check your coverage on your car insurance policy. This way you’ll be able to rest easy on your vacation and not worry about liability, medical, or collision and comprehensive coverage for your auto.
