Home Fire Safety & CT Home Insurance

Watching the news this morning, I was heartbroken to learn that there were two fatal house fires in the state of Connecticut in the last few days. According to the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA), “home fires are more prevalent in winter than in any other season.” Here are some tips for winter fire safety from the USFA to keep in mind this chilly time of year:

  • Be sure every level of your home has a working smoke alarm, and be sure to check and clean it on a monthly basis.
  • Plan and practice a home escape plan with your family.
  • Contact your local fire department for advice if you have a question on home fire safety.

Sometimes, though, no amount of preparation will prevent a fire in your home. In that case, you should be able to rely on your Connecticut Home Insurance policy—But even that could have its vulnerabilities. Any coverage is first subject to your deductible, but then subject to the limits on your coverage set by your policy. This is why it’s important to review your current CT Home Insurance policy with your agent regularly—among other things, they help you make sure that your limits are enough to protect you, should a disaster strike. They can also give you some tips to seal up the vulnerabilities in your coverage with supplemental policies for more valuable items that have very limited coverage on your typical home insurance policy.

Prepare your home for winter with fire safety awareness and a call to your local Encharter Insurance agent about your current CT Homeowners Insurance policy.
