I’m Hosting My Child’s After Prom Party… Now What?

Prom is a fun night where your kids get to celebrate the end of the school year and you get to be their personal photographers for an hour.  As harmless as that sounds, prom is often cause for some trouble as well – specifically the after-prom-party.  Some parents opt to host the after prom party so they can feel as if they have some control over the festivities your kids will partake in that night.  If your kid asked to host the after prom party this year, and you said yes…now what?

prom party liability insuranceFirst things first, even if you make it clear that the party will be dry, it is still a good idea to take their keys to avoid any possible liability resulting from your guests drinking and driving.  Did you know that if they leave your house drunk and get in an accident you can be liable?  There could be even more severe consequences if the kids are underage.  Make sure you prevent this by setting in place clear rules.

Also, it’s important to make sure you have enough liability coverage on your Massachusetts Home Insurance.  If you’re concerned about having enough coverage, you should also ask our knowledgeable agents about a Massachusetts Umbrella Insurance policy.  Extra liability coverage is more affordable than you would probably think!  You can also ask our agents about discounts you’re eligible for as well – our agents work hard to provide awesome coverage while trying to save you money!

One last tip is to make sure your teenager feels comfortable coming to you if things were to get out of hand.  It’s better that they feel safe to communicate with you upfront rather than try to fix a problem on their own.  If you agreed to host the after prom party make sure you and your teenager are on the same page and you have a plan of action in the chance something were to go wrong.  Prom is supposed to be a fun time for the kids.  Make sure you’re prepared and confident with your insurance coverage so you can relax and let the kids enjoy their night.
