I’m Renting a Car…Now What?
We’ve been talking a lot in our blogs about being the hostess during the holidays and the stress that can bring. For those of you that are traveling and staying with family, don’t worry, we know that can be stressful too! As guests, we often do everything we can to not completely depend on those kind enough to host us. This may include renting a vehicle for your stay at a relative’s home. After all, there may not be enough room in your luggage for all those gifts and you may find yourself back and forth to the mall. A question we frequently get from our clients is about their Massachusetts Car Insurance coverage when they are renting a vehicle.
There you are at the car rental place and they are offering you the option of purchasing insurance, but do you need it? There are a couple of things we recommend you do before you commit. First and foremost, if you know you will be renting a car on your next trip, call our agents and ask about your car insurance coverage! Our agents will be happy to give you their advice on the pros and cons of car rental insurance and let you know if you have the coverage you need without it. Sometimes your policy will provide rental car coverage and that may be enough for your situation. If you don’t own a car, this may be another reason to look into a non-owner auto insurance policy. Also in addition to calling your agent, give your credit card company a call. They sometimes provide coverage for situations with rental cars and accidents, but not always!
Your current Massachusetts car insurance coverage may be enough for your trip, but the only way to be sure is to ask your agent. Sometimes the rental car insurance is the right choice and other times you can stick with the auto coverage you have. Either way, the best person to help you make the decision is your insurance agent. As we always remind you, everyone’s policy is different so whenever you have questions about your specific coverage, it’s important to speak directly with your agent about your policy.
