motorcycle insurance Is my motorcycle trailer covered?

Sometimes you may be taking a long journey and bringing your bike in a trailer. If this is the case, it’s important to know if damage would be covered to your trailer and your bike, while in or on the trailer. The answer is a little confusing, but while your bike is in a trailer, it would be covered under its collision coverage. Damage to the trailer is covered under the collision coverage of the trailer. And damage to the vehicle towing it, is covered under the collision coverage of the vehicle.

Would I be covered if I am riding out of the country?

Your MAP covers you in the US, Puerto Rico and US territories and possessions and Canada. There is no coverage given to you if you are riding in Mexico. If you are traveling out of the country, best to call your agent and ask specific concerns and questions. This way they can work with you to make sure you have enough coverage on your current motorcycle insurance policy or help you obtain the coverage you need.

Is towing covered?

The answer to this will be different based on your coverage decisions. Everyone has the option to purchase roadside assistance on your motorcycle that will provide towing, labor at the time and place of disablement. This is not a required coverage, but is something very easily added to any motorcycle insurance policy that can give you added peace of mind while on the road.

What happens if my motorcycle breaks down and I can’t travel back home?

There is such thing as “trip interruption coverage” which is also a coverage on auto insurance policies. If you have this coverage on your policy and your motorcycle breaks down and is being repaired and you cannot travel back home, you would have insurance for some lodging, meals and transportation costs when you break down at least 100 miles from home. For those that do not travel that far on their motorcycle, this coverage may not be worth it, but for those that do it’s an important coverage to consider.

What coverage should I worry about with a passenger?

In the event that you get into an accident, when you have a passenger with you they may also be hurt. If they are hurt your bodily injury coverage on your policy will help cover any medical bills they may have. Do you know how much bodily injury coverage you have or if it would be enough? It may be something worth discussing with your insurance agent before you hit the road.
