Keep Your Newly Spring Cleaned Home Protected with CT Homeowners Insurance

Spring is officially here! That means great things like beautiful flowers, nicer weather, and one season away from summer. Some of us also enjoy the fresh feeling we get at home from a good spring cleaning as well. Spring cleaning can also help eliminate some of the allergies we all get with this lovely spring air. For those of you that don’t enjoy cleaning and wouldn’t mind skipping some corners, here is a list of some of the ten germy areas in your home you may want to start with:

  • Vacuum cleaner brushes and attachments are something that are easy to forget about. We are using it to clean, so we shouldn’t have to worry about cleaning that too, but that’s not the case. We recommend reading your manual for how to clean the right way, a clean vacuum can mean a cleaner house.
  • Yoga mat or other gym things are easy to forget about. Let’s face it, when we get home from the gym we don’t want to think about it until the next time we go. If you use yoga mats or even your own weights and things at home, it’s a good idea to make sure they are clean. The best cleaning product to use is simply water and mild soap, gentle enough that you won’t have to worry about destroying your mat. Even if we aren’t sweating, we are still spreading germs and we don’t want that!
  • Blinds can be a tough spot to reach, but it is important to get the dust out before open window seasons. We will have enough pollen and germs coming in from outside, we don’t need more flying through our homes. If you have metal blinds, use a sock lightly dampened with water or multi-purpose cleaner. For fabric blinds, go over the blinds with a dry microfiber cloth.
  • Toothbrush holders can get pretty gross and can easily be ignored, especially in the kids’ bathroom! Clean with either one part bleach, three parts water or you may be able to just put it in the top rack of your dishwasher.
  • Trash cans are used to store trash so we are well aware they aren’t the cleanest items in our home, but how often do you clean them? Do a thorough wash for spring by using a cleaner that includes bleach, letting it sit for 10 minutes, then washing it down in your shower or sink. Remember to then bleach your shower or sink after.

Do you feel much better now? As promised, it’s just a couple of ideas to some forgotten about, but germ infested areas in your home. And even if we don’t like cleaning, most of us take part in spring cleaning because our homes are important to us. Spring may be a good fresh start to check up on your CT homeowners insurance policy.
