MA Home Insurance & Other Ways to Prepare Your Home for a Vacation
Summer is just around the corner! With the kids out of school and so many great destinations, it’s the perfect time for that family vacation. Going on vacation is supposed to be a fun and relaxing experience, but sometimes we worry about our home’s well-being while we’re away. We don’t have much control over what happens to our homes while we’re away, even with a house-sitter, but there are some things you can do to ease your mind before you go! By taking a few simple steps before your departure and upon your return you will be able to relax a little easier, knowing things should be in order when you return. Review this checklist and erase some of your worries for your family’s next vacation.
Before you leave:
- Prep your pets and plants. Make sure you have contacted a trustworthy house sitter to stop by and feed and play with your pets. Also give them a list of plants to water.
- Clean out any food from the fridge that will expire while you’re gone.
- Reset the thermostat so that you’re not wasting energy.
- Hold the mail or have a neighbor collect it for you so it doesn’t pile up when you’re gone.
- Stock your home with some breakfast items that won’t go bad so you can enjoy a nice and easy meal upon your arrival.
- Change your sheets and do the laundry for a nice and fresh welcome home.
- Tidy up your home by doing the dishes and cleaning the bathroom in order to relieve stress even after your vacation has ended.
- Clear your schedule. Take a day off from appointments the day after you arrive home give yourself a chance to return phone calls, sort your mail, and get back into the swing of normal everyday life.
Another important to-do before you leave for vacation is to make sure you review your MA home insurance. Look over your belongings to check if there have been any significant purchases since your last policy review because a new television or computer could affect your coverage. Nothing would be worse than coming back from a nice vacation to find your home had been damaged or robbed. Rest easier on your vacation knowing you have the coverage you need!
