New App to Curb Texting and Driving

It’s not news to us that technology has reached new heights; information is at our fingertips and it’s the age of instant gratification. If you want to talk to a friend, you don’t need to wait to get home to call them from a landline. You can call them right from your cell phone. Or better yet, you can text them and they get your message almost instantaneously. This is all very good, until teen drivers get behind the wheel. Teens are texting and driving and they are causing fatal accidents. Some cell phone companies are doing something about it. According to a recent article by Fox News in Boston, a new cell phone application has been created to curb teen texting while driving. The article claims that the new app is called “Cell Safety” and “it disables texting capabilities while in a vehicle going faster than 10 miles an hour. Text messages cannot be sent or received until the vehicle stops…and you may have to wait as long as 90 seconds before texting can resume.”

Of course, laws banning texting while driving and using new technology to keep teens from texting while driving are not fool-proof.
