Top 10 Tips to Prep for a Road Trip!
School is almost out of session and summer vacation is looming! A great getaway option for many people is a summer road trip! You can drive along the coast to a sandy white beach, visit a famous landmark, or check out a cool national park. All you need is a car and some friends or family to accompany you!
Before you set out on your summer road trip adventure, these are some things you should do to prepare your car.
- Check the air pressure in your tires. The air pressure of the tires shouldn’t be too much or too little. Having the right air pressure can help you save money on gas, makes the car easier to handle, and helps the tire’s longevity. You may also want to get your tires rotated if they haven’t been in a while. It helps tires last longer and it keeps the car balanced and smooth.
- Pack a car emergency kit. This can include first aid, flares, blankets, and anything else you might need in case you get stranded somewhere. You might also pack some jumper cables, flashlights, and a tool kit. It’s always best to be safe than sorry.
- Check your fluids – windshield wiper fluid, antifreeze, coolant, transmission fluid, engine oil, etc.
- Double-check your GPS. Whether you plan on using your phone, your car’s built in navigation, or another device, make sure you have a way to figure out if you’re on the right path.
- Bring your car into the shop for a checkup. Your local auto repair shop can do a lookover of your car to make sure it’s suitable for a long distance trip. They can also assess any maintenance that may need to be done. They’ll know what your car needs to survive hours on the road.
- Fill her up! Get that gas tank full before you leave, otherwise you’ll find yourself stopping for a refill before you know it.
- Snacks! Always important to have road trip snacks for when you and your guests start to get a bit peckish.
- Pack some entertainment. Be equipped with road trip games, DVDs, cards, an audiobook/podcast, or whatever other forms of entertainment that could save you from hours of boredom. Just make sure you practice safe driving and are not distracted behind the wheel.
- Call your insurance agent. Go over your current auto insurance policy to make sure you and your road trip buddies have some protection in case of an accident or other mishap. Having an adequate auto insurance policy will help keep you and others protected on the road.
- HAVE FUN! After all, it’s all about the journey and the company you’re with.
Don’t let your car ruin your fun summer road trip! Use these tips to help make the trip a success! Always make sure to contact a professional if you’re ever unsure about how your car works, or if it’s safe to drive. They will be able to help you sort out any issues you may be having with your vehicle. If you have insurance questions, contact your insurance agent to get your concerns addressed.
