Prom Season: Driving Safety Tips to Pass Along to Your Teens!

Prom season has arrived! Will your teen be attending this year? While some teenagers take limousines over to the prom, others are excited to drive themselves and their date. If your teenager will be driving on prom night, it is your responsibility to give them a driving safety lecture before they hit the road. It is also best to make sure their Massachusetts insurance policy is ready for the worst case scenario.

Before we discuss the coverage, we have a few tips to offer. These are just a few of the things you should be passing along to your son or daughter before the big night:

  • ALWAYS wear your seat belt! This may seem like a given, but many teenagers forget to do this.
  • Keep distractions to a minimum. While blasting music and chatting with a date and friends is fun, it is important to focus on the road ahead.
  • Have a GPS or map ready to avoid getting lost.
  • Never, ever get behind a wheel while intoxicated or on drugs.
  • Do not hesitate to call for a ride home if you are either intoxicated or too tired to drive.
  • Ladies: are you wearing heels? Pack a comfortable pair of shoes to drive in (it will be easier!)
  • If the driver needs to text, have the passenger handle it.

While parents may be nervous about their teenager hitting the road and driving back late at night, it is important to trust them. By passing along these tips and expressing your concern, your child is much more likely to be careful on the road.
