St Patrick’s Day Check-Up for Your Car & CT Insurance!
What better time to think about going green than around St. Patrick’s Day? For some it may mean a green t-shirt (or green beer), but let’s celebrate by looking at ways to go green when it comes to our cars. Spring is only a couple of days after St. Patrick’s Day, making it an even better time to start fresh with your vehicle!
Service Your Car Regularly: The little things such as keeping air in your tires and making sure your air and fuel filters are clean can make your car more fuel efficient. Also get rid of things in your trunk or other cargo areas; the added weight can decrease gas mileage.
Plan Ahead: Once again something small like planning your errand trip better can help improve your gas mileage. If you have some errands to do, combine them with other things on your agenda. Also plan your trips during less-congested parts of the day if you can. Less traffic means a smoother, more fuel efficient ride.
Drive Smart: Idling uses more energy from your car than simply turning it off. We all knew that right? Keep that in mind next time you are waiting outside of your child’s school or spending time in that drive-thru. When you can, try to park and head in, or turn your engine off.
Modes of Transportation: This can mean a number of things. On a smaller scale, consider walking or biking to nearby destinations if weather and other circumstances allow you to. On a larger scale, keep fuel efficiency and going green in mind next time you are buying a car. For some this may mean a hybrid, for others this may just mean downgrading from a larger, bigger engine, bigger wheeled car.
