If you don’t exactly have a green thumb, planting can be extremely stressful. You want to make sure you are doing your best to plant things that will grow and flourish as the season goes on. Just to make sure your garden is a success this spring and summer, here are some dos and don’ts that can get you started:
Soil don’t: Work the soil only when it’s moderately dry. If you walk on, till, or cultivate the soil when it’s wet it can destroy the soil.
Soil do: If your soil is too wet, use raised beds that will dry out and warm faster and can provide
drainage.

Cold weather plant do: Check the packets to see how long it takes plants to harvest before you plant. You may find plants that are cold-weather such as peas, spinach, and lettuce should be planted soon so they will have time to mature before the hot weather gets here.
Weather do: Know your area so that you can choose your plants wisely and they will be able to stand the cold and/or heat. For example, did you know peonies won’t bloom in places with a mild winter?
Planting do: If you have planted seedlings indoors, ease them into the outdoors. Gradually increase the amount of sun they will be exposed to.
Compost is a do: Let Mother Nature feed your plants by having compost pile for your soil.
Watering do: Did you know your veggie garden needs about an inch of water a week? If you don’t get a lot of rain, water those veggies so that about 6 inches of the soil is wet.
Veggie do: Rotate your veggie crops each year because the plants can be vulnerable to diseases that may be lingering in the soil from last year.
Wish that you could just put an umbrella over your plants to protect them if there’s too much rain or too much sun? While we can’t offer you extra coverage for your plants, we can offer you extra liability insurance with an Umbrella Insurance policy.

What would happen if while you were out your babysitter were to get hurt in your home? Anything from slipping on ice while getting something from her car to tripping over the kids’ toys in that messy playroom is a possibility. As we always say, they are called accidents for a reason and it’s difficult to prevent these accidents from happening.
A situation like this would be where having enough liability coverage on your Massachusetts Homeowners Insurance would be key. Your liability would help cover medical expenses. If that babysitter were to sue you for the accident, you may end up not having enough liability to cover the situation.
