Rain or shine, you’re most likely looking forward to the long weekend. If you are going away this Memorial Day, I’m sure you are already dreading the journey to your vacation. Let me paint you a picture of how my trip will go: about four hours in a five passenger car with five people, a medium sized dog and way more luggage than we all need. Will your ride be similar? Hopefully traffic won’t be too bad this year, but it’s good to be prepared anyway. If you want to be prepared for your trip, here are 5 Tips for Your Memorial Day Weekend Travels. They may not solve all of your problems, but they can certainly help!

Consider driving overnight. We caution you to be extra careful because there may not be the safest, most alert drivers on the road overnight, but it is one day to avoid traffic.

Always have a spare tire. Think about how much longer your trip would take if you had to pull over, wait for someone to get to you in traffic, change your tire, then hit the road again. Be prepared and avoid a flat becoming a major detour for you.

Bring an Emergency Vehicle Kit. Having a set of jumper cables in your car can never hurt, even if the car is new and you’ve never had issues. It may also be helpful to have extra fluids and even a jug of water in the chance that your car overheats.

Check the Fluid Levels in Your Car. Whether you check it yourself or take it to a service center, it could save you a lot of trouble to know where you stand before you hit the road. Do you need your oil changed? What about washer fluid?

Watch out for other drivers! This is true for every time you get behind the wheel, but even more important for busy weekends. With more people on the road and everyone in a hurry to get where they’re going, you may encounter even more aggressive drivers than usual.

Do you know what else you should make sure to have before hitting the road? Massachusetts Car Insurance because even if we are prepared and are watching out for other drivers, we know how the roads can be. The best way to protect yourself against accidents on the busy roads this weekend is with a great car insurance policy. You can get your car insurance online, saving you valuable time you can now put towards planning your trip and packing your car now!

NJ Umbrella Insurance I feel like I am always saying “can you believe how fast the time goes by?”, but I truly cannot believe this weekend is Memorial Day. We have been talking about warmer weather and vacations a lot lately, but for a lot of people this is the true start to summer! I look forward all year to heading two hours up to my house in Maine and opening up my lake house with the whole family. After the boats are in the water and the place is cleaned, it’s all about great company and good food. If you want to “think big” for your Memorial Day BBQ, you may want to consider
going to one of these Memorial Day BBQ Festivals. My family would be pretty upset if I ditched them, but
these are very tempting.

  • Blues, Brews, and BBQ at Beaver Creek (Colorado)
  • Marc’s Great American Rib Cookoff (Cleveland)
  • Central Florida BBQ Blowout (Seminole County)
  • Blues, Brews & BBQs Brentwood (Kansas City)
  • Roc City Rib Fest (Rochester)
  • The Pignic- Fort Ritchie (Maryland)
  • Missouri Festival & RV Park in Dixon, MO
  • Papa Joe’s Banjo-B-Que (Southern Georgia)
  • Berea National Rib Cookoff (Cleveland Suburb)
  • Best Dam Barbecue Challenge (Just outside Las Vegas)

Whether it’s bonfires in the yard, swimming in the pool, or even more time cooking by the open flame of the
grill, summer may put you at risk for more accidents. If your bonfire hits the house or if there’s an accident with a neighbor’s child in your pool, would you have the coverage you need? Talk with our agents about extra liability with an Umbrella Insurance policy. Adding an umbrella insurance policy can give you that added protection and there’s no better time to add that coverage than summer time. Chances are you’ll also be surprised by how affordable extra liability coverage with an umbrella insurance policy can be!

I’m Renting a Summer Home…Now What?

It’s been a family tradition for me every single Memorial Day Weekend for my whole family to get together at my house in Maine and open it up for the summer. Renters InsuranceIt’s been a family tradition for me every single Memorial Day Weekend for my whole family to get together at my house in Maine and open it up for the summer. We put in the boats and docks, clean everything out, and then have a family softball game to celebrate one of the rare occasions we can all get together. For those of us in New England, we find ourselves saving up a lot of our vacation days for summer days and vacation trips similar to my own. Whether you own a home like my family or you will be renting , it’s important to be aware of th insurance options for your family while  you’re enjoying summer at a home away from your home.

If you are renting a vacation home this summer, the good news it that your current Massachusetts Renters Insurance policy or homeowners insurance policy will cover your things while you’re away.  Often times
when  you’re renting, especially if it’s for an extended period of time, you will bring a lot of your own things to the rental home.Your Insurance provides coverage for your personal property wherever you are in the world, but it is usually a percentage of the coverage you have. For example if you had $30,000 on your policy the may give you 10% worldwide, giving you $3,000 in coverage. This is usually a good amount for people on a vacation with the average amount of property you would bring for a trip. If you do end up on extended trip or you’re just not sure if your Renters  or Homeowners Insurance Policy would give you enough coverage, call our agents to get a better idea!
