One of the issues some people have with online shopping is the shipping process. While you’re at work, what happens to the packages that sit at the foot of your stoop.  Thieves see this as an opportune time to swipe your purchases. We hear about it more and more these days, thieves will pick the package right up off your door step and walk away with it.  What happens if your package was stolen from your doorstep?

homeowners insurance package was stolen

If you’ve ever wondered if your Connecticut homeowners insurance would cover something like this, you’re not alone. If you’ve ordered gifts online and they are stolen…now what? Once the package has been delivered by the delivery service, it belongs to you, so unfortunately, you are responsible for it. In this case, your homeowner’s insurance policy should cover you, but it would be subject to your deductible.

What about if you are shipping your gift to a friend or family member and it is stolen? It turns out that the shipper should have insurance through the delivery service.  However insurance but may not be guaranteed. If getting your package stolen is a concern of yours, it might be a good idea to ask questions. Inquire with someone on the website you are ordering from or even call the shipping company directly and see what their policy is. Asking questions and keeping yourself informed can make a huge difference!

Whether or not you would have coverage for an incident like this under your Homeowners Insurance policy varies greatly on your policy. Because each policy is unique, if you have more questions about your coverage and this topic (or any others) the best thing to do is ask your agent!

Call your Encharter Insurance agent with your questions so that we can help you get a little more peace of mind.

I consider myself a people person so when it comes to the holidays; nothing brings me more cheer than a holiday party! No matter what holiday you celebrate, isn’t it great just to get together with the ones you love? If you’re playing host to a holiday party, you are responsible for the location, the food, and almost everything else. Unfortunately, you can also be held responsible if something were to go wrong. If you’ll be serving alcohol at your holiday party this year, be sure to encourage a designated driver for each group of people.

If someone were to leave your home drunk and get into an accident you could be held partially responsible or even sued. Either way, this is just one of the things that could happen this holiday season (or throughout the year) that may have you wishing you had extra liability coverage on your Massachusetts homeowners insurance. You may not be able to get an extra insurance policy just for your holiday entertaining, but what about an umbrella insurance policy? More liability coverage is always helpful. Call your agent today and talk about your liability coverage and ask about adding an umbrella insurance policy. If you add an umbrella insurance policy, you could have it in time for the holidays and then you’d have added protection year round! Part of being a great hostess is taking care of your guests, make sure you and your guests are covered this year with the extra liability coverage you might need.
