Always remember to be awake and alert at the wheel. It is never smart to drive if you feel tired or weary. There are many ways to avoid being tired behind the wheel and here are a few:
- Don’t Trust Caffeine – Slugging down a cup of black coffee is actually not a great solution. It usually takes around twenty minutes before caffeine begins to kick in so you might already be dozing off before it starts to work.
- Don’t Over-nap – While sleep is good, sleeping too long will make you groggy and lower your responsiveness. The ideal amount of sleep is around 15-20 minutes which will keep you feeling as fresh a flower. Be sure to set your alarm and pull over if you feel yourself drifting off.
- Don’t Forget Your Water Bottle – Dehydration will cause confusion and make you feel distracted. If you feel the headache around the eyes or above your brows then dehydration might be setting in. An 8 oz. drink of water will make you feel more alert.
- Don’t Reach for Fast Food – While a nice greasy burger might seem like the best way to boost your energy, it will leave you feeling tired pretty soon. You are better off munching on a nice piece of fruit or something healthy.
- Don’t Drive in Silence – Listening to fast-tempo music is proven to be one of the most effective stimuli to keep drivers alert and awake. Whenever you start to feel dreary, don’t be afraid to start pumping the jams!
Hopefully these tips will help you avoid feeling tired when driving. Always remember to avoid driving while being tired or distracted in any way. You have all of your senior events, graduation, and the exciting promise of starting college, and essentially your life, as an independent adult. One of the most enjoyable moments of high school students’ senior years is their prom. I’m not sure about the guys, but for girls you get to have your hair and make-up done and put on a fabulous dress and spend the night with all of your friends (and maybe even that special guy). What could possibly go wrong?

Last Saturday night, twenty high school seniors in Florida had a very different prom night than they could have expected. As they were all riding in the back of their limo, they passed a minivan that had just flipped over on Interstate 595 after hitting a concrete barrier. Instead of just passing, the limo driver pulled over and all of the students sprang into action with him. All dressed up, the group helped save mothers and children. Definitely an unforgettable night for the students, who turned out to be heroes in their own right.
Safe to say these students got a reminder on their prom night about the importance of safe driving. Put safety first whenever you are behind the wheel (or in the passenger seat) helping to prevent accidents. While you may not be a distracted driver, others on the road may be, which is why it’s important to also have a great New Jersey Car Insurance policy. On prom night, just like every other night, practice safe driving and make sure you have the coverage you need in case of an accident.
-->Pruney Fingers, Tire Treads & NJ Car Insurance
Are you aware of the real reason why our fingers and toes get pruney when they’ve been in water for awhile? Although seemingly useless, it’s actually a function our nervous system takes on to make it easier for us to grip wet surfaces. This logic is also found in the tires of your car. The “wrinkles,” better known as treads, allow... Read MoreSafe Driving Tips for the New Year!

The first few snowfalls of this winter season haven’t been too bad. A few inches of snow and slush typically don’t pose a huge threat to drivers, but motorists across New England know that this is just the beginning. Driving in wintery conditions can be very dangerous if the proper precautions are not taken. Courtesy of Weather.com, here are a few tips and tricks to keep you and your family safe and sound while driving on icy roads. What better time to brush up on your driving skills than with the start of a brand new year?
- Decrease your speed and leave yourself plenty of room to stop. You should allow at least three times more space than usual between you and the car in front of you.
- Brake gently to avoid skidding. If your wheels start to lock up, ease off the brake.
- Turn on your lights to increase your visibility to other motorists.
- Keep your lights and windshield clean.
- Use low gears to keep traction, especially on hills.
- Don’t use cruise control or overdrive on icy roads.
- Be especially careful on bridges, overpasses and infrequently traveled roads, which will freeze first. Even at temperatures above freezing, if the conditions are wet, you might encounter ice in shady areas or on exposed roadways like bridges.
- Don’t pass snow plows and sanding trucks. The drivers have limited visibility, and you’re likely to find the road in front of them worse than the road behind.
If you follow this advice closely, chances are you’ll be smooth sailing until Groundhog Day. However, in the event that you are involved in a fender bender, you’ll want to be protected by Connecticut Auto Insurance. An Encharter Insurance agent will quote you on the best coverage, which will be a big help in case you’re involved in a weather-induced collision. Stay warm, and most importantly, stay safe this New Year!

We have been talking a lot about your Massachusetts home insurance lately, and while it’s important for your home to be prepared, it’s also important for your auto to have the coverage it needs. It’s no secret earthquakes, hurricanes, and nor’easters can also do a number on your car. Do you have the Massachusetts car insurance coverage you need? While you can’t always predict the weather, as New England residents I think we can assume we need to prepare for snow. Before anything too heavy comes our way, get your car ready with great car insurance and the right snow tires!
- Things to keep in mind when pricing snow tires:
- The bigger the tires the more you tend to pay. The very same brand and model will cost more for a newer, larger car so make sure you are pricing the right tires for your vehicle.
- Keep in mind mounting and balancing costs, road hazard warranties, taxes, and disposal fees for old tires. The same tires may seem cheaper one place, but make sure to see what is included with that price!
- Tires often don’t have suggested retail price, making it very important to shop around to different places, you may find a large price difference.
Bottom line, make sure to put in the extra effort to search around and not just for the cheapest prize. Some places may seem like they have a high price, but maybe that includes installation or free tire rotations in the coming years. At Encharter, we know how important the safety of your vehicle is to you. The right snow tires can help protect you from accidents, the same way the right Massachusetts auto insurance can keep you covered if an accident were to occur. What are you waiting for? Give us a call and let us help you get the insurance policy that is right for you and your vehicle.
