Usually Mondays are reserved for a spotlight post on a local member of our Partners Program. In light of the terrible tragedy that occurred Friday in Newtown, Connecticut, we thought we could instead focus on their local community. One cannot imagine the devastation that has taken over Newtown and while there is no fix for their hurt and sorrow, some of us are left wondering what we could do to help. We all have the victims and their families in our thoughts and prayers after the unfathomable tragedy that occurred at Sandy Hook School. Community is important to us all, if you are interested in helping a community as they begin to deal with a very difficult time; there are a few organizations that are currently accepting donations.

  • The United Way has set up a Sandy Hook School Support Fund
  • The American Red Cross is accepting donations of blood and money.
  • Newtown Youth & Family Services is a nonprofit mental health clinic providing counseling to those affected.
  • Newtown Parent Connection offers bereavement counseling, among other things and is looking into bringing additional counselors in.

For more information on how you can donate to any of the above organizations, read more from MSN here.
