To Google+ or Not To Google+

By now, you’ve most likely heard that you should have a Google+ business page. Like most business managers, you want to know why you should invest your time into another social network, right? Below are some key points about Google+ and its influence on boosting your business from Mashable.

  • Having a Google+ business page can help your search engine rankings. Of course, your presence alone isn’t enough – +1s, shares and activity on your page are key factors.
  • Google+ +1 buttons on your website encourage viewers to recommend your web pages or blog posts – another search engine boost!
  • Do you already have a Google+ Local page? It’s the same thing as your Google Places page. If you don’t have one – you should. It certainly helps in your local marketing – specifically searches for a nearby business (ex. Search Engine Search for: Insurance agency near Amherst, MA). Be sure to optimize your About page to help your search rankings.
  • Another task for you: build your fan base by sharing your content, sharing other content that your target audience will find interesting, and engaging with your target audience. Like Facebook, Twitter & other social networks, be sure to post regularly. According to this source, you should keep in mind a 1:4 or 1:3 ratio between your own content and content non-specific to your industry or content from sources other than your own site. Pictures tend to help your posts be seen, which helps gain more +1s.

Once you gain your basic presence and following on Google+, you can start getting fancy with Google Hangouts or Events. Like any other social network, it involves putting some time and effort into – but being the social network of one of the big search engines has to give you at least a little encouragement!

Are you on Google+? Tell me about some of your successes!
