Welcome to 2014 – Importance of Google+
For a few years, you may have been hearing about how important Facebook and Twitter are to your business’ Internet Marketing strategy. Google+ is usually shoved to the backburner as we wait for the network to become as popular as other mainstream venues. Well fellow marketers, it looks like 2014 may be that year. I’ve read countless articles about how business’ should create their profile for numerous reasons. Of course, the biggest has always been, “It is Google’s social network!” Beyond that, let’s look at some other reasons why Google+ should become a larger part of your marketing strategy:
- Did you know that the content you post on your G+ profile counts towards your search rankings? Being active on your profile will help you reach your audience.
- Not only will an active profile help your rankings, but it also positions your business as competitive. Remember that old logic I started this blog out with? Getting on Google+ before your competition gives you an advantage. Despite people calling the network a graveyard, there are over 500 million users, and it continues to grow. With help from the largest search engine on the Internet (Google, of course), it helps to position thought leaders, create new connections, and help boost your search rankings.
- As Google continues to make changes to its algorithm and place more emphasis on the proper ways to build SEO, you should know that increasing G+ engagement positively affects your site’s SEO. A correlation exists between +1s and Google rankings. While this doesn’t mean that +1s directly affect your Google ranking, it does mean good SEO juice (and who can’t use more of that?!) Additionally, if you haven’t already, be sure to link your website to your G+ profile.
- More evidence of point #3 is Google’s use of personal information from Google+. If it’s an integral part of Google’s SEO plan for 2014, shouldn’t it be part of yours too? Enough said!
- Have you heard of Google Authorship? More and more you’re seeing photos of the article’s author next to the meta data on your Google results page. In terms of Google rankings, those authors with Google Authorship, or Google+ profiles, are positioned as trustworthy and as thought leaders. Being linked to Google Authorship helps to make your content relevant in the eyes of Google. Ignoring this factor could phase out your content and make it irrelevant to searches in the future.
Because of its powerful parent, 2014 is not another year to let Google+ sit on the backburner. It’s time to realize what it can do for your marketing, your SEO, and your overall success. So get a head start on your competitors, and start building your profile!
